Today's release of Mac OS X 10.6, a.k.a. Snow Leopard, has brought many questions from people who want to know-- Does your software work on this new version of Mac OS X?.
The answer is, very simply, "yes". The current versions of all of my software work just fine on Snow Leopard. No updates are needed, so you can keep using the version you have.

Nope, it doesn't work. Fresh, clean SL install on MacBook 1,1:

The same message showed up on my MacBook as yours. Try to copy the MondoMouse.prefPane directly into
/Library/PreferencePanes, or~/Library/PreferencePanes(if you want make it available only on your account). It will work.Wed, 09/02/2009 - 18:08
That's a weird one. MondoMouse has a property that says it only works on 10.4 or above, but sometimes, on some Macs, System Preferences thinks that 10.6 is older than 10.4 and refuses to install. Once installed, it works.
I think I have a fix for this. I'm not sure why it didn't show up during testing. It'll be available soon.

My experience has been very positive. The only things that didn't work:
1. DisplayLink driver for an external USB display device) - an SL update is already available and fixes the problem
2. A couple Safari addons that are broken by 64-bit Safari (just have to run Safari in 32-bit mode and everything is happy)
3. MenuMeters doesn't have a SL version yet and is completely broken
I have a couple old PPC apps that I just deleted since I never use them (and I didn't want to install Rosetta).
Very happy with SL so far... (also, as an ADC member, I've been running the GM since it came out - so I've had time to discover any oddities).

Thanks for posting this info about osx 10.6 we are purchasing another mac and had wondered if Macaroni would still run... Glad all is well... Will purchase another copy.

I've found mondomouse is fairly quirky. Sometimes it doesn't quite grab the window right. Additionally, sometimes it'll never ungrab it and start using 100% cpu and I'll have to kill it.
Sun, 08/30/2009 - 12:01
Actually it works at 10 %. Nearly all the time I can't move or resize windows. I guess it's because it's still 32 bit? Please, is there a chance to release a 64 bit version which loads nicely into 64 bit System Preferences?
Wed, 09/02/2009 - 18:11
The 32/64 bit issue only affects System Preferences, not MondoMouse's regular operation. I haven't seen anything like you describe. Could you tell me a little more about how you use MondoMouse? Like, what apps you use it with? Does it seem more reliable with some than with others for you?
Sun, 08/30/2009 - 15:23
Will a 64 bit version of Macaroni be released?
Thanks.
Wed, 09/02/2009 - 18:15
It might be, but since the 32-bit version works, it's not a high priority. Macaroni wouldn't benefit 64 bit code, the only change would be that System Preferences wouldn't complain.
Tue, 09/15/2009 - 19:00
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the explanation.
Macaroni seems to be working fine in Snow Leopard.
Sun, 08/30/2009 - 15:36
Not had any problems here. The preference pane has to relaunch in 32 bit mode, but other than that, it works just as it did before. Resizing and Moving with ease here.

I can't help noticing at at least one complaint (mine) that MM does not work properly with Snow Leopard has been removed from this blog. I can't help wondering if other users have had the same experience.
Wed, 09/02/2009 - 18:12
Well, I haven't removed any comments, and nobody else has access. I don't know what happened to your previous comment but I guarantee I didn't remove it.

It is easy to crash. Just click and hold on an icon in the dock, triggering Expose, and it will crash MondoMouse. I have no resizing right now.
Wed, 09/02/2009 - 18:31
I didn't even realize that Snow Leopard added this Expose trigger. It looks like MondoMouse recovers after you switch to a different application, so while it's temporarily not responding, it's not crashed either. Does that work for you as well?
I'm not sure what's causing this yet. I didn't test it because I didn't know Expose had changed like this. I'm looking into it.
Tue, 09/01/2009 - 09:55
MM *sort of* works for me. I just had it leave the window edge highlight on-screen for Safari, though, and it was running at 90% of CPU (3.06 GHz iMac, 4 GB RAM) while apparently doing nothing.
Wed, 09/02/2009 - 18:25
Could you please contact me with information about how you have MondoMouse configured? I can't reproduce this, but it's possible I haven't tested your exact configuration.
Tue, 09/01/2009 - 11:49
Hi, I like mondomouse but sometimes it crashes without any information (some kind of dbus error).
Any hints?
Thanks in advance,
dave
Wed, 09/02/2009 - 12:45
Same comment as the Dave above. About three or four times a day, Mondomouse crashes without any rhyme or reason. Don't know if it matters, but it usually happens when I'm working in RapidWeaver, but that might just be coincidence since I'm usually designing sites.
Cheers!
Dave

We love Macaroni...
I have purchased 4 licenses so far and your program is keeping our Mac's purring quite nicely thank you.
Fri, 09/11/2009 - 13:48
I've also had problems under 10.6. MM stops working, and the CPU goes to 100%. It's always worked great for me before (10.4 - 10.5).
Tue, 09/15/2009 - 06:56
Mondomouse no longer starts automatically for me at startup - it only works once I go to the prefpane. I also get the "System Preferences must restart to load this preference pane" message for the switch from 64 to 32 bit.
Wed, 09/16/2009 - 21:27
MM stops working for me a few times a day and I have to revisit the pref pane. I don't have to do anything once it's open, just oking the System Preferences mode switch fixes it.
Fri, 09/18/2009 - 17:23
Hm, now usually I do have to disable and re-enable Mondo Mouse before it starts working again when it stops.
Sun, 09/20/2009 - 12:16
I'm having several crashes per day. Crash logs available.
Mon, 09/21/2009 - 10:05
Macaroni is not fully compatible with 10.6 Snow Leopard. The relaunch of the systems prefers is causing us to have to remove Macaroni from our 8 iMacs. As a business we can not have applications that 'sort-a' work with 10.6. Is a fully compatible version going to be made?
Mon, 09/21/2009 - 11:13
It's crashing for me pretty consistently under Snow Leopard, so much that I've stopped using it. Pity, I found MondoMouse quite useful. Tom, do you have an ETA for a Snow Leopard compatible release?
Wed, 09/23/2009 - 18:15
I'm getting exactly the same issue, MM stops working and I have to open up the preferences pane again to get it to start working. I'm starting to resort to dragging the corners of windows again, please help before bad habits start forming :)
Mon, 10/26/2009 - 04:21
I installed 1.4.4b1 but am still experiencing this issue. Also getting an issue where MondoMouse is causing TextEdit to be open constantly, it cannot be closed down. I will log a separate thread on this.
Wed, 09/23/2009 - 12:56
I've experienced the runaway CPU issue now as well. Was using 175% CPU.
Thu, 09/24/2009 - 04:07
I find MondoMouse work sluggishly on Snow Leopard with 64-bit kernel, and it does not capture the active window everytime and crashed frequently.
I just have to depend on MondoMouse less now than the time I'm using Leopard.
I hope to see a stable 64-bit Snow Leopard version of MondoMouse sooner than later...
Fri, 09/25/2009 - 09:07
Same issue as JD (post#24) and others. AT startup, no MM...visit prefs pane and have to restart it to get it to work. Stops working a few times a day and must reopen pref pane.
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 13:32
I have the same issue. It's actually seemed to get worse recently. ie, when I first installed SL on top of Leopard, I don't recall there really being any issues. now, it dies at least every hour and the only way I can get it to start working is to disable/enable it (i've taken to leaving the system preferences open).
also, your captcha is broken.
Mon, 10/26/2009 - 04:27
TextEdit keeps restarting after Quit, seems to be something to do with MondoMouse.
I can quit TextEdit from the menu, I can kill it with Activity Monitor, or I can issue a 'kill -9 ' from the command line. TextEdit will temporarily exit (disappears from process list), then immediately returns displaying a blank 'Untitled' document.
See this link for the full thread and a solution involving MondoMouse (which also kills MM!!!)

I have been a big fan of Mondo Mouse.
In SL, I have the same issue on my macbook pro and iMac that some described above.
Several times a day, it stops working, apparently spontaneously. To re-enable it, I must open system preferences, select MM, allow system preferences to automatically restart, and then again go into MM to re-enable the application.

T

Hi Tom, thanks for the great app - MondoMouse makes such a huge difference from me. I'm using it with Snow Leopard and have been seeing some of the same behavior others are reporting, e.g. occasional runaway CPU use, occasional crashes with manual restart required. Feel free to get in touch over email if there is anything I can do to help. Best regards - Stefan
Thu, 12/24/2009 - 00:53
Is anyone still checking these comments? Tom, are you still actively working on MondoMouse? It only works a little while under Snow Leopard and then stops, have to go to System Preferences to disable and enable it again... then it works again... for a while... is there a new version coming?
Wed, 01/20/2010 - 09:23
I love Mondo Mouse, but v 1.4.4b1 does not work well with OSX 10.6.2 Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro. It stops working several times during the day and I must open the preferences, turn everything off and then back on again. Then it works for a few more hours, and stops again. Hopefully a fix will be forthcoming.

Is there any chance that that you release an update?
We paid 15$ we could then expect some support!!! It seems that you just take the money and that's it :(
Tue, 02/16/2010 - 12:42
I echo everyone's comments above. I am a BIG fan of this product, am having many of the same SL issues mentioned above, and I am wondering when there will be an update!
After quitting and reopening the preference pane, I'll check for an update and then it tells me that 1.4.2/386 is up to date. I am reluctant to update via your web site given what I've read here, but am frustrated with having to continue to enable the pref pane.
